PICES in Focus: Celebrating Regional Artists in Video Premiere

1 min read

PHILLIP Island Contemporary Exhibition Space Inc (PICES) unveiled its latest endeavour, "PICES in Focus – A Gallery Talk and Studio visits with Regional Artists," during a captivating video premiere on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Held at Berninneit, Cowes, the event drew notable guests and PICES members, along with family and friends, who eagerly gathered to witness the culmination of this exciting project.

Everyone enjoyed mingling with two of the acclaimed artists Mae Adams and Andrew Kasper over refreshments, before settling into the cinema for the main event.

Supported by a grant from Regional Arts Victoria, the video production, produced by filmmaker Patrick Troy and his crew, not only reinforces PICES' vision of bringing contemporary art to the community, but also shines a spotlight on successful arts practice in regional Victoria.

The two-part video captures the essence of three talented artists—Mae Adams, a weaver; Andrew Kasper, a sculptor; and Mark Schaller, a painter—who featured in the highly acclaimed PICES in Focus Exhibition held in February.

Viewers are treated to a gallery talk moderated by local journalist Catherine Watson, followed by intimate visits to each artist's studio.

With the aim of exploring how artists can thrive in regional areas, the film showcases the experiences and insights of the featured artists, delivered with warmth, sincerity, and humour.

Thanks to the skilful production of the video, the audience on Sunday night was treated to an informative and engaging screening, leaving them inspired and enlightened.

PICES extends its heartfelt gratitude to Regional Arts Victoria for their generous support in funding the video, and to the Bass Coast Shire Council for their contribution towards the new PICES in Focus exhibition.
