THE INAUGURAL Bena Hall Art Show was a success, attracting healthy numbers for Friday’s opening evening and throughout the weekend to explore the varied artistic styles on display, with around 160 people enjoying the event.
There was a distinct local feel as the creations of artists from the South Gippsland region were highlighted, providing attendees with the chance to buy pieces that captured their imaginations.
Around a third of the works sold, with artists displaying four pieces each, plus an assortment of the works of four other local artists highlighted by art dealer Doug Kane.
Participating artists were Andrew Kasper, Tracy Lewis, Bruce Plant, Colleen Herbert, Marlene Abela, Shirley Arestia, Lucy Hersey, Lynn Keating and Janet Wilson.
Councillor Jenni Keerie opened the show.
Bena Hall committee secretary and co-organiser of the art show Steve McTaggart was delighted with the positive response from artists and the broader community.
“Some of them were saying, ‘I hope this is on next year as well’,” Steve said of the local feedback, noting artists not featured in this year’s show expressed interest in being involved next time.
While a total of funds raised is not yet available, the money will assist in sanding and polishing the Bena Hall floor, ensuring the facility continues to be at its best for the community.
