BEAR Gully campground, located within Cape Liptrap Coastal Park, is still closed after it was discovered that current camping and recreational activities may have impacted an Aboriginal place and artefacts.
The Sentinel-Times recently contacted Parks Victoria (PV) to see if there was an estimated time of reopening, however, no update could be given.
The decision to close the site came after PV received advice from First Peoples – State Relations (FP-SR) on the matter during April this year.
It was previously reported that PV closed the site to ensure that there is no further potential for harm to Aboriginal cultural values at this site.
PV has been working work with FP-SR and Traditional Owner representative groups to understand the options available and to ensure they comply with the Act to manage Aboriginal cultural values.
