DREARY conditions outside did nothing to spoil the fun for the small but enthusiastic band of participants constructing popsicle bird feeders at Leongatha Library on Wednesday, part of a busy program of school holiday fun across the Myli Library network.
Library program officer Kearny Hull joined the fun, having found the creative bird feeder design online.
The construction involved creating a base from about 10 popsicle sticks, then building upwards with sticks running different ways, perches incorporated into the design.
One of the young participants, Poppy, was pleased to create extra bird feeding stations.
“We have a lot of birds and they fight over the bird feeder,” she said, hopeful the avian visitors will get along more peacefully if given a less competitive feeding environment.
Library activity enthusiasts Ryder and Darcy Cholmondeley were busy again, mum Eliza saying they don’t miss many of the sessions.
“Darcy is on to a boat now,” she said, noting he’d already completed his bird feeder.
While the bird feeders were rather plain to look at, that was set to change once they dried out, their makers then at liberty to paint them in whatever colours take their fancy, Darcy already planning a vibrant mix of yellow, green, blue and red.
The finished feeding platforms will be suspended from trees by string, their weather resistance set to be put to the test.
