Bus shelter maintenance: It’s not us, it’s them!

1 min read

ON FRIDAY last week, with a bitter wind blowing right through the broken windows on Wonthaggi’s central bus shelters, patrons waiting for the bus were huddling together trying to stay warm and dry.

Three missing window panes, one on one shelter and two on the other have been smashed out sometime ago but still we wait for a repair.

We phoned the Bass Coast Shire Council.

“It’s not us, it’s PTV,” they said.

So, we emailed Public Transport Victoria and got a prompt response from Transport Victoria: “The shire is mistaken, maintenance and repairs are their responsibility.”

“Responding to an application from the shire, we pay for the infrastructure but then they have to maintain and repair them. You’ll have to go back to the council.”

A classic impasse and cost-shifting from state to local government but spare a thought for those waiting for the bus in Wonthaggi in bad weather, and sort it out please!
