FIRE brigades around South Gippsland and the Bass Coast are helping local residents prepare for the coming fire season with Get Fire Ready events across the region.
As Gippsland heads into what is expected to be a challenging fire season the CFA says it’s more important than ever for residents and property owners to understand their local fire risk and take steps to prepare for the fire season.
To support local communities across the state CFA brigades are hosting Get Fire Ready events throughout October offering practical advice and resources to help us get fire ready.
Get Fire Ready events will have some great tips on protecting home and property against fire, understanding fire danger ratings, where to find emergency contact information and how to create your own bushfire survival plan.
On Saturday October 4 French Island Fire Brigade will have a CFA Open Day from 9am to 4pm at the French Island Fire Station, 219 Tankerton Rd, French Island, Poowong from 11am to 1pm at the Poowong Fire Station,14 Brisbane Street, Poowong; Toora from 11am to 3pm at the Toora Fire Station, 20 Gray St, Toora; and Meeniyan Stony Creek from 10am to 2pm at Brown Wigg, 110-116 Whitelaw St, Meeniyan.
On Sunday October 5 CFA Open Days will be held at Koo We Rup from 10am to 2pm at the CFA Running Track, 255 Rossiter Rd, Koo Wee Rup; Lang Lang Fire Station from 10am to 2pm, 6 Rosebery St, Lang Lang; Inverloch from 11am to midday at the Inverloch Fire Station, 28 Abeckett St, Inverloch; Pound Creek from 10am to 4pm at the Pound Creek Fire Station, 686 Inverloch-Venus Bay Rd, Pound Creek; Tarwin Lower from 10am to 2pm at the Tarwin Lower District Fire Station, 40 River Dr, Tarwin Lower; Yanakie from 10am to 2pm at the Yanakie Fire Station, 3634 Meeniyan-Promontory Rd, Yanakie; Yarram from 10am to 2pm at the Yarram Fire Station, James St, Yarram; and Dumbalk from 10am to midday at the Dumbalk Fire Station, 15 Nerrena Rd, Dumbalk.
Leongatha Fire Brigade will have a CFA Open Day on Thursday October 9 from 11am to 2pm at the Leongatha Fire Station, 93 Bair St, Leongatha.
Boolarra Fire Brigade will have a Get Fire Ready event on Friday October 10 from 5pm to 7.30pm at the Boolarra Memorial Hall, 10 Christian St, Boolarra.
Phillip Island Fire Brigade will have a CFA Open Day on Saturday October 11 from 10am to 4pm at the Phillip Island Fire Station, 110 Ventnor Rd, Cowes.
On Sunday October 12 Kongwak Fire Brigade will have a CFA Open Day from 10am to midday at the Kongwak Market, 1487 Korumburra-Wonthaggi Rd, Kongwak; Nerrena will have an Open Day from 10am to 3pm at the Nerrena Fire Station, 80 Nerrena Hall Rd, Nerrena; and Hallston-Mt Eccles will have a local activity from 2pm to 5pm with fire crews from Hallston-Mt Eccles, Allambee and Berry's Creek at the Hallston Hall, 2670 Grand Ridge Rd, Hallston.
Mirboo North Fire Brigade will have a Get Fire Ready event on Saturday October 25 from 9am to 2pm at Baromi Park, 36 Couper St, Mirboo North.

Get Fire Ready events will also have fun and educational activities for the kids.
