Remembering those who served at Kongwak

1 min read
COOLER weather made for the perfect start to the day on Sunday as members from Kongwak and District Fire Brigade, supported by members from other local brigades, coordinated the official dedication of the new Wishing Well outside the station.

Installed last year, the wishing well serves as a place for anyone to reflect on the effects of fire on their lives or the community.

Near on 80 members originally came together to create Kongwak’s brigade many years ago and in the last two years, three long serving members have sadly passed away.

“With 76 members originally, we would have the whole front of the building individually dedicated,” Captain, Tony Reade opened.

“Common sense prevailed, and a wishing well was built…

“Korumburra Men’s Shed did an excellent job and it will serve as a memorial to all past and present members.

“We represent the community, we protect the community; we’re not superman, but we do a job because our community needs us.”

Tony also touched on local brigades proudly supporting each other in times of need before handing over to CFA State Chaplin, Akhil Gardner for the official dedication.

“It’s an honour and privilege to be here sharing this with you and remembering what CFA is all about,” Akhil said before leading with the Fireman’s Prayer.
In dedicating the wishing well, he continued.

“Hear our prayers as we dedicate this well to the memory of those past and those who will continue to serve into the future.
“May this be a remembrance that inspires…”
