St Joseph’s students donate Christmas gifts for kids

STUDENTS at St Joseph’s Primary School, Korumburra, recently participated in a project by Samaritan’s Purse called Operation Christmas Child.

Teacher Rachael Mullin, along with her 5/6 class, were inspirational in leading this initiative amongst the St Joseph’s community.

Operation Christmas Child is a hands-on way for students and families to gift children in need across the world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and fun gifts that they will receive in time for Christmas.

To culminate their religious education inquiry for the term, students were able to take action by uniting as a community to bring hope to those in need, share God’s love, and make a difference in the world.

Students wrote personal notes to the recipients, which they placed inside each box, and they will be able to track where in the world their boxes end up using the boxes’ individual barcode.

Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts are collected each year from locations throughout the world, including Austria, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, North America and the United Kingdom.

St Joseph’s School extends a special thank you to Doreen Western, a local volunteer for this project who was supportive in getting the project off the ground and for collecting the boxes for the next step in their journey.
