IT’S a busy time of the year for the Salvos.
At Leongatha they’re running low on non-perishable food, family and household groceries for their Food Bank and could do with some more donations when the Food Bank opens at the Salvation Army centre between 10am-3pm on Tuesdays and Fridays.
They’ve also been reaching out with Christmas presents and Christmas supplies through their Christmas Cheer drive and will wrap up that annual initiative with a “free for all” on Friday, December 16.
If you have any new toys and gifts to donate, please do so before the 16th.
And this year the Leongatha Salvation Army Corps is inviting anyone who would like to come along to their ‘Christmas Day Lunch at the Salvos’, between 12pm and 2.30pm on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25.
It could be someone who expects to be on their own this Christmas or anyone really, in need of some company and some cheer at Christmas.
All they ask is that you call and make a booking on (03) 56626400.
In traditional Salvation Army style, the lunch will be an “alcohol free” event, but everything else about the day will be free as well.
The Salvation Army Centre at Leongatha does a lot, providing all their social services without discrimination, including:
- Alcohol and other drug services
- Aged care
- Prison support
- Disasters and emergencies
- Financial Assistance
- Family and Domestic Violence support
- Housing
- Finding employment
- Funerals

For example, with ‘Rural Support’, they provide services and support to farmers and rural workers based in regional or remote areas, through their rural chaplains.
“Rural chaplains can visit you and provide emotional, spiritual and/or physical help. From practical support on the farm, to sitting down for a cuppa and a chat, our chaplains want to lend a hand. It doesn't matter how remote or isolated you are, our Outback Flying Services enable us to travel far and wide.
“If you would like to speak with a chaplain, go to the Salvos website but if you want to talk to someone now, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. You don't need to struggle alone.
