THE Nobbies boardwalks and car park will re-open this afternoon, ahead of the busy school holiday period. The views, blowhole and the excitement of whale watching are the true attractions at this incredible site, and Phillip Island Nature Parks (PINP) CEO Catherine Basterfield said, “We hope to see both visitors and the local community enjoying this rugged coastline throughout the whale season.
“Following the structural issue that occurred at the Nobbies Centre, engineer inspections have confirmed it is not safe to re-open the building at this stage. We have prioritised securing the site so the boardwalks and car park can be freely accessed.”
In the coming weeks, Phillip Island Nature Parks will begin consultation for the updated Summerland Peninsula Master Plan. As part of this, Catherine said, “We will be seeking the views of the local community and organisations on the future of the Nobbies Centre.
“We want to ensure that any further investment in the Nobbies facility helps to achieve the community’s long-term aspirations for this site. This means the building will remain closed while this planning is undertaken.”
During the Nobbies downtime, the Penguin Parade will be the primary visitor hub for the peninsula.
The Penguin Parade Visitor Centre will open at midday each day, so visitors can access bathroom facilities and food and drink services. Public toilets are also available at the Penguin Parade car park.
PINP will also be hosting activities, movies and additional tours throughout the school holidays. To view the full program or to book, visit: What's On | Phillip Island Nature Parks
