CECILY de Gooyer, unfortunately, wasn’t saved on The Voice on Seven and 7plus on Sunday night in her battle performing ‘I Was Made for Loving You’ by Kiss – a contrasting performance battle with rock partner, James Van Cooper.
Cecily said she was thankful for the opportunity with James. “There was no point of comparison, which I am really grateful for, because we are so different,” said Cecily.
In an interview with Cecily, she explained that the producers were incredible throughout the experience. “They have to come up with things on the fly, they need to be ready and willing and embrace the rapid pace of the industry, and you just have to go into it without hesitation – if you doubt yourself for a second, it doesn’t serve anyone.”
Cecily explained that going into this experience at the start of Year 12 helped shift her perspective. “There is no room for self-doubt. There was pressure of knowing the performance would be televised, but I was just treating it as an incredible opportunity to learn, and battle was about what we could do together and really supporting each other; it was a lot of fun.”
As Cecily said goodbye to The Voice, she said that Kate is a fabulous musician, and she was so grateful to work with someone who really understood her voice.
"I just had to face this without regrets, and this experience has shifted my mindset and helped me so far going into Year 12, knowing that self-doubt doesn’t help."
