Wonthaggi Rotary Club changeover at the State Coal Mine

2 min read

THE Rotary Club of Wonthaggi proudly hosted its annual changeover event on Saturday gathering at the Wonthaggi State Coal Mine to celebrate fellowship, leadership, and service to the community.

This year’s celebration carried a particularly meaningful focus launching the Rotary International theme for 2025–26 of Unite for Good.

The event brought together 40 people representing a wide cross-section of the Bass Coast community including local service groups, businesses, and community leaders.

The changeover is always an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past Rotary year while also setting the vision for the year ahead.

This year attendees were encouraged to reflect on the powerful ways that community groups and individuals can work together to create lasting positive change.

The message of Unite for Good resonated strongly throughout the evening with conversations centred on collaboration, kindness, and building stronger connections across the region.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of President Leah Montebello who continues to serve as Club President for another year.

Leah was warmly celebrated for her commitment, energy, and leadership throughout the past year which has seen the club achieve strong community partnerships and impactful projects.

Leah’s ongoing presidency promises continuity, stability, and renewed enthusiasm as the club embraces the Unite for Good theme.

The event also marked a special milestone when President Montebello welcomed new member Bek Eastman into the club. Bek recently attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) proudly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Wonthaggi.

Bek Eastman shared with attendees the personal growth and leadership skills she developed through the program along with the lasting friendships she formed.

Bek’s reflections were both heartfelt and inspiring, demonstrating the life-changing impact of Rotary’s youth programs and the value of investing in the next generation of leaders.

In keeping with the Rotary tradition of ‘service above self’ the event also highlighted the tangible contributions made by the club to causes both locally and globally.

The Rotary Club of Wonthaggi proudly announced donations of $500 each to four vital community organisations, Bunurong Wildlife Care, Wonthaggi Lifesaving Club, Bass Coast Winter Shelter, and Wonthaggi Food Pantry.

An additional $1,000 was donated to Rotary International’s End Polio campaign further demonstrating Rotary’s commitment to international service.
