THE Woodlands Art Exhibition concluded on a high note, showcasing an impressive array of local talent and achieving substantial sales. A total of 30 artworks were sold, amounting to approximately $12,000. This sum was shared with the artists, marking the event as both a successful fundraiser and a testament to the vibrant artistic community supporting the woodlands campaign.
One of the standout participants was Wonthaggi fabric artist Janet Budge, whose extraordinary fabric collages captivated attendees. Janet’s work won both the second prize and the People’s Choice award. Persuaded by a friend to enter the competition, Janet initially doubted the quality of her work. However, the recognition she received at the exhibition bolstered her confidence. “Now, because you believe in me, I’ll believe in me,” she remarked to a round of loud applause.
The exhibition featured a variety of outstanding artworks. The first prize was awarded to Ray Dahstrom for his poignant piece titled “Demise of a Scar Tree,” which resonated deeply with the audience.
Janet Budge’s “Woodland Walk” not only secured the second prize but also won the People’s Choice award in the 2D category. In the Emerging Artist category, Margaret Lee’s “Misty Morning” received accolade. Additionally, John Di Stefano’s “Urn” won the People’s Choice award in the 3D category, showcasing his skill in sculpture.
