You’re never too young or old to learn to sail at the SGYC

1 min read

SAILING lessons to help both young and older aged sailors get started on their sailing adventures begin next month at the South Gippsland Yacht Club in Inverloch.

The SGYC is running ‘Off the Beach’ full-day sailing courses from 9am to 3pm on Saturday December 6 and 13, and part-days on Thursday and Friday January 15 and 16.

The sailing school will provide everything you need to get sailing including one-on-one coaching on the water, plus onshore demonstrations and basic theory.

It’s never too late to start your sailing journey using the club’s two RS Feva dinghies, two Pacers and a confidence inspiring Corsair. Becoming a sailing member at the SGYC also gives you access to the club’s facilities as well as free use of the club boats.

Club boats include a Mirror and two Optimist dinghies, perfect for younger sailors, plus newer RS Feva and Pacer dinghies for older crews and a Laser and a Sabre for solo sailing.

A family oriented club the emphasis at SGYC is on participation and fun for all members regardless of skill level or class of boat sailed. The club boats give young or beginner sailors the opportunity to develop their sailing skills until they have their own boat.

The main classes of dinghies sailed at Inverloch are Impulse, Laser, Aero and Sabre, plus Taipan and Mosquito catamarans. Sailing begins in November with racing between 11am and 2pm each Sunday depending on the weather.

Regattas are held every public holiday weekend with the Inverloch Classic Dinghy Regatta in February attracting a growing number of wooden sailing dinghies every year.

Th sailing courses cost $250 per person with an option to join the club at a heavily discounted rate. Discounted membership is also available for family groups of three or more. Contact Terry om 0420 460209 or email terrykirby283@gmail.com
