Special meeting of Bass Coast Shire Council to meet planning policy deadline

BASS Coast Shire Council will hold a special meeting of Council on Wednesday July 9 to endorse the final draft of the Bass Coast Statement of Planning Policy.

The timeframe to consider endorsement of this document as set out in government legislation is within 28 days of receiving the Statement of Planning Policy and that deadline falls at the end of this week.

The purpose of the Statement of Planning Policy is to create a framework for the future use and development of land in Bass Coast to ensure the protection and conservation of Bass Coast’s distinctive attributes.

The Minister for Planning determined to finalise the preparation of the draft Bass Coast SPP in May 2025 to commence endorsement by responsible public entities (RPEs) and relevant Ministers.

This followed an extensive public consultation process, including several phases of community engagement and the Distinctive Areas and Landscapes Standing Advisory Committee process.

In preparing the final draft of the Bass Coast SPP all public submissions were considered alongside the advice of the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, Bass Coast Shire Council, other government agencies, authorities and the Distinctive Areas and Landscapes Standing Advisory Committee report.
