SOME say it looks like a prison, others say a mosque or a church.

But what do you think about the $27.2 million, Jackson Clements Burrows-designed Cowes Cultural Centre as it begins to take final shape ahead of its anticipated opening later in 2023?

The shape and style of the massive community building on the corner of Thompson Avenue and Church Street has, naturally, attracted a lot of comment locally, some complimentary, some not.

Progress on the community centre through June has included:

  • Brickwork ongoing to northern elevation.
  • Plaster works ongoing throughout.
  • Solar panel installation ongoing.
  • Function Room, Amenities and Grand Hall services rough in nearing completion.
  • Window frame installation ongoing.
  • Library and Office Services rough in ongoing.
  • Fire pump installation ongoing.
