Council
Voting rolls close August 7: Can’t vote if you’re not enrolled

LOCAL council elections will be held in Victoria by post this October 2024 for all councils except Moira Shire Council in the state’s south-west.

That includes Bass Coast and South Gippsland.

But you can’t vote if you’re not on the electoral roll and you’re fast running out of time to enrol.

If you haven’t changed your address and you voted here in the last State Election, chances are you will already be enrolled to vote here in the local government elections, but you can check your enrolment status online HERE

Key dates ahead of the election are already coming up, with just a couple of weeks left for you to enrol by the closing date of 4pm on Wednesday, August 7.

If, however your enrolment is not straightforward, and you are applying to vote as an absentee owner of property in Bass Coast or South Gippsland or you are a representative of a property-owning corporation, you may have less time than that to get on the roll.

You may need to fill out a form signed by your local council to qualify to vote.

Key dates

  • Wednesday, August 7: Roll closes at 4 pm
  • Monday, September 9: Nominations open at 9 am
  • Tuesday, September 17: Nominations, candidate statements, photographs, and questionnaires close at 12 noon
  • Wednesday, September 18: Ballot draw
  • Monday, October 7: Ballot pack mail out begins
  • Friday, October 25: Voting closes at 6 pm
  • Friday, November 1: All postal votes must be received by 12 noon
  • Friday, November 15: All election results declared

Your vote matters. Local council elections are your chance to choose who you want to represent your community on the issues that you care about.

Enrol or update your enrolment by 4 pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
