A STRUCTURE fire on Korumburra Road near the corner of Beard Street currently has Korumburra Road closed in both directions between Beard Street and Wentworth Road, and will keep the road closed for at least the next hour as firefighters remain on scene.
The rear of a single storey, weatherboard home was fully alight with two young girls in the next street over alerting authorities and waking the sole male occupant.
Incident Controller, Wonthaggi Fire Brigade Lieutenant, Jamie Moresco explained that the occupant was asleep at the time and was woken by the young girls banging on his door, which very much saved his life.
The community are urged to keep their doors and windows closed due to smoke in the area.
Alongside Wonthaggi, Inverloch and Dalyston Fire Brigades also attended.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
