Explosions and black smoke billowing from San Remo factory

AN EXPLOSION was heard and black acrid smoke seen issuing from a factory in San Remo this morning just before 10.50am.

The factory on Pelican Lane behind the car wash on Phillip Island Road was quickly attended to by firefighters and police with firefighters using breathing apparatus and cutting equipment to gain access to the fire. 

It's understood there were concerns of additional explosions occurring but fortunately the fire was brought under control and put out around 11.15am. 

Firefighters are currently on scene dispersing smoke and cleaning up.

Local fire brigades from San Remo, Phillip Island and Wonthaggi attended alongside VicPol.
