Breakers win on home turf

IN PERFECT conditions the Breakers didn’t disappoint with a fine performance entertaining the home crowd.

Slowing the play down with controlled movement, the Breakers had some nice end to end passages setting up some great forward entries.

Despite getting a lot of attention from the opposition, Kelly O’Neill was dominant at centre half forward.

The Breakers good ball movement allowed her to receive the ball deeper in the forward line than usual, and she took full advantage with three majors for the game.

Kate Caughey provided another tall target option, getting on the board with a nice goal on the run.

Tracey Johnson continues to establish herself as a dangerous forward with her great awareness leading to a strong mark and goal.

With a few usual faces missing out of the midfield, Ahlee Penry made the most of her opportunity getting plenty of the ball and having a big influence along with Tess Wingfield, who played her usual high pressure role in the middle.

The half back line was again a strong point for the team with Stacey Poke, Courtney Fletcher and Hannah Mills combining well to shut down any potential Pearcedale advances.

The level of pressure and second efforts was impressive, with the forwards working hard to keep the ball in their 50 led by Tayla Tatterson who maintained a high work rate all game.

Coach Bianca Hellmuth-Pask was pleased with the effort, noting that this is the standard expected now as the team looks to secure their finals spot with just four matches to go.

Final Score: Bass Coast 8.3-51 def Pearcedale 1.1-7.

The Breakers will enjoy a week off before travelling to Coburg for their next game Sunday, July  17, 11.30am.
