POOWONG welcomed Nilma Darnum for the seniors and reserves and Neerim South in the Fourths, with the ground in a good condition having dodged the wet Saturdays.

Poowong were forced to make one change Jaemeel Knecht in for TJ Loughridge injured, with possibly of a couple of players back after the bye next weekend, when we play Neerim South away. The club had two Senior players reaching milestones, Connor Cunningham and Josh Harvey both playing their 150th senior games.

The game opened with Nilma Darnum scoring the first goal of the game to the Nyora end, and a couple of points before Poowong found the big sticks with Jayden Sullivan, Paddy Harmes and Will Robertson goaling, followed by three points.

Nilma Darnum were moving the ball around and managed their second goal for the quarter.  Poowong finished the quarter with a five-goal burst.

The home club were not having it all their own way as Nilma Darnum concentrated on finding teammates with their kicks when going forward.

Poowong came out at half to time determined to continue where they left off.

Nilma Darnum was equally determined to hit the scoreboard adding a point from a kick from CHF, then they received a fifty-metre penalty to add their third goal then missed another opportunity with a point.

Down one player, Poowong had to work even harder Mitch Whiting goaled before a couple of points.

Nilma Darnum had another chance but kicked out of bounds, Paddy Harmes had a late chance but ran too far and was penalised.

Poowong players were asked to be more direct in their play, from this they added nine goals nine from 18 shots, without Nilma Darnum hitting the scoreboard.

Poowong opened with a point followed by Connor Cunningham to Harmes for his sixth.

Will Robertson added his second followed by another poster, Josh Harvey added a point before Connor Cunningham kicked his second.

Jack Hazendonk added a point before James Scott kicked his second, Josh Harvey kicked his third in amongst three late points.

Poowong home by 150 points.

A good win on the day, Nilma Darnum battled hard all game but were unable to finish off their forward moves with Poowong’s back line on top.

Poowong are in fourth place at the moment, and it will come down to the games ahead whether we can sneak into third place
