Inverloch Men’s Shed launches 8-week fine woodworking course
The Inverloch Men’s Shed is hosting an eight-week furniture building course on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8pm, starting October 8 and concluding on Thursday, November 26, 2026.
THE Inverloch Men’s Shed is throwing open its workshop doors to local residents with the launch of an exciting new eight-week furniture building course.
Specifically designed to welcome new members, the hands-on initiative offers a unique blend of skill-building and community connection. Whether participants are complete beginners or looking to dust off old skills the course promises to cover many of the fundamentals of fine woodworking.
Rather than relying heavily on automated machinery, students will master classic hand tools like hand planes, chisels, and tenon saws under expert guidance. The primary result for course participants in the program will be a beautiful, functional wooden hall table built entirely from scratch.
Throughout the construction process, course participants will learn timeless trade techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, traditionally the foundation for solid, durable furniture construction. They will also master shaping tapered legs to create a sleek, elegant silhouette for the table, and shaving bevelled edges to produce a clean, refined, and professional finish.
To support them on their woodworking journey, all timber is fully supplied. Participants will also receive a complimentary starter kit to keep, which includes a handy tape measure, adjustable square, and a precise marking tool. At a total cost of $150, this program represents an affordable way to gain lifelong craftsmanship skills.
More than just a technical workshop, the initiative aims to bring fresh faces into the Inverloch Men’s Shed by providing a supportive, welcoming environment for locals to learn a rewarding craft, share a few laughs, and connect with a great group of blokes in the community.
