Invisible councillors

1 min read

ONCE again Bunurong Ward Councillor Meg Edwards has demonstrated that she is the only current elected Bass Coast Shire Councillor who chooses to stand at the head of the community rather than to stand at rear of the bureaucrats.

Meg convened last week’s Not in Our Name rally at the Wonthaggi Workmens Club, to voice community opposition to the Spring Streets brand new VESF tax.

It’s unsurprising that, despite having been invited to address the meeting, our local MP Jordan Crugnale failed to make an appearance. Instead, the meeting was left to be addressed by Opposition MPs including the Shadow Minister for Local Government Bev McArthur.

This rally attracted a large number of community members from across the shire.

Even Councillors from South Gippsland, Baw Baw, Cardinia, and even as far as Shepparton, made the effort to attend this important community meeting.

But, notable for their absence were our other eight Bass Coast Councillors.

And their absence was clearly remarked on by community members in attendance.

Despite having previously opposed this new unfair tax within the confines of their bureaucratic McBride bubble, the missing eight were nowhere to be seen.

And apparently none of them even offered the courtesy of an apology for not being able to attend. How rude and disingenuous of them. Go figure.
