Jordan Crugnale advised ‘frustration’ is rising

1 min read

THE Sentinel-Times has been copied into this ‘Letter to Jordan Crugnale MP’, from a young Wonthaggi resident caught up in the planning overlay disaster:

I am writing to address the environmental audit overlay affecting my property and numerous others in Wonthaggi, within the Bass Coast Shire.

I am seeking clarification regarding the application of this overlay, as I am baffled by the lack of awareness among various involved parties.

It is evident that there were mishandlings during the early planning stages by the VPA, Bass Coast Shire Council, and the EPA. This is particularly concerning given that the investigation identifying potential contamination was conducted as far back as 2016!

The challenges posed by this new requirement are significant, especially for first-time homeowners like myself, and families seeking a fresh start.

The high costs and lengthy timeframes involved are simply unmanageable for many. Our building plans have been delayed since 2020, and I can only imagine the frustration of others in the same boat having to endure a three to four-year wait, only to encounter this mess!

The current situation would undoubtedly shock all Victorians and could potentially hinder the shire’s development.

Furthermore, residents who have been residing in these areas for an extended period would understandably be distressed to learn of potential contamination on the land they call home, and in many cases, where they are raising their children.

Given the current rental crisis and inflation, this issue with the environmental overlay audit is particularly devastating, impacting the ‘Great Australian Dream’ of home ownership.

It raises questions about how this aligns with the path to a better life, success and security.

I look forward to your prompt response and I welcome further discussions regarding this matter.
