Our toxic relationship with government

1 min read

THE Allan Labor government have demonstrated what they think of Victorians, particularly country Victorians.

We have a state Labor government that hurts with one hand through exorbitant new taxes because the government won’t curb their reckless spending and focus on core essential services only.

They have wasted so much and can’t dig their way out of their mess (literally their illustrious tunnel) of debt by more taxes which are sending businesses, families and farms into even more financial stress.

Then concurrently with the other hand the Allan government offers farmers mental health support. In a domestic situation, someone who bashes their partner and then buys them flowers is called a toxic abusive relationship. How is this any different?

Did the government consult with farmers directly or the VFF in their drought policy? No.

Did they listen to the CFA and volunteers? No.

Did they come and ask shire councillors such as myself what we think of their new taxes? No. In fact we and other councils came out strongly opposed but they ignored us.

It has passed the upper house through some sort of deal with the Greens, Animal Justice and Legalise Cannabis parties, that we obviously don’t have full disclosure of. Our rates notices should clearly indicate that it is a state tax and that questions should be directed to your Labor MPs (Jordan, Harriet and Tom – none of who have made any attempt to communicate with us about it) who voted to hurt their constituents.
