Reconsider Grow Lightly

1 min read

I UNDERSTAND that Grow Lightly have been told to vacate the shire building that they occupy on the land in front of Coal Creek. I find this tremendously concerning, and struggle to understand why Council would decide this, and I urge councillors to please reconsider.

Grow Lightly is a fantastic initiative, one that I expect will only grow with support from environmentally conscious residents in Korumburra and surrounds, with our population expanding. Shouldn’t we be encouraging such an eco-friendly venture?

Volunteers provide much of the work involved, and again, shouldn’t the Shire be encouraging their contribution to our community?

If made to vacate, it’s unlikely that Grow Lightly will be able to find another suitably set up building. The current building suits their needs, and I understand a lot of the infrastructure has been provided by Grow Lightly themselves. I also understand they are also prepared to assist with the building’s general maintenance.

What does the Shire intend to do with this building if empty? Leave it to fall into disrepair? Does it not make sense to show Council support to such an environmentally sustainable ‘not for profit’ organisation?

I ask Councillors to please re-consider the benefit of leaving the arrangement with Grow Lightly as is.

And also to consider the fall-out if an organisation such as Grow Lightly loses the facility they currently have - and the community loses Grow Lightly... no winners, just losers.

Please weigh up the benefit versus the loss.
