Conrad Sewell brings his regional acoustic tour to Bernnineit

4 min read

CURRENTLY touring the country as part of a huge 10th anniversary acoustic tour for his multi-platinum 2014 single Firestone, Conrad Sewell will perform live in an intimate setting at Berinneit, Cowes and be joined by René Le Feuvre on July 19.

Starting his musical journey at the age of 8, Conrad Sewell became a household name with his first official solo endeavour, teaming up with dynamic Norwegian DJ and producer Kygo for the 2014 smash hit Firestone; a track that has since gone on to generate over 1 billion streams on Spotify alone and opened the door for to open arenas for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5 and Jess Glynne. Since then, Sewell has never looked back, going on to secure a number one charting and Platinum certified single via 2015’s Start Again, which also took home the ARIA Music Award for Song of the Year, before going on to release two studio albums, tour the globe extensively, all while continuing to enamour with his soulful approach to pop music that is authentic as it is memorable.

While the future certainly looks bright for Sewell, his 2025 homage to the song that changed everything a decade ago with these extensive and intimate acoustic tours is a perfect chance for reflection and connection. In an interview with the Sentinel Times, Sewell shared his enjoyment of regional touring, which allows him to connect with fans in smaller towns and perform in intimate settings. “It is a chance to get out to places in the country where we don't usually play, it's a different energy. I feel that artists who aren’t playing in regional venues are missing out.

“Some of the songs we’re playing live aren’t out yet—no one’s heard them. So, the only way to experience them right now is to come to the show,” he said. “That live audience feedback is everything.”

The show promises a dynamic range, from acoustic piano ballads to upbeat crowd-pleasers like Firestone, and even some mid-tempo funk. While some venues are seated, like Cowes, the performance invites a bit more dancing by night’s end.

“I'm excited to play these songs of mine in a way that I've never had the chance to. A lot of them were written acoustically, so to be able to strip them back to their essence feels awesome. Seeing the fans connecting with and singing these songs back to me, when performed in their rawest form, is super special, too.”

Behind the scenes, Sewell has continued to evolve both musically and personally. From his breakout hit Start Again, written in Los Angeles during a time of personal heartbreak – a song that he said ‘changed his life’ to his most recent album, written during a stint in rehab after the COVID lockdowns, his music has become more reflective and deeply personal.

“After everything, the biggest thing I’ve learned is to write from a real place,” he shared. “Not everything has to be a hit. Sometimes the real music is in telling your story and having someone tell you after a show that my song got them through something. Which is why I love hosting meet-and-greets after every gig on this regional tour.”

Having already collaborated with artists like Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20 and, most recently, with the release of ‘Someone Else’s Dime’ with 360, he hints at more opportunities on the horizon, with his eye on a collaboration with his sister. “It’s always great when you can get two singers that you know their tones as soon as you hear them.” But for now, it’s about staying grounded and grateful.

“It’s a journey,” he said. “It’s a beautiful thing, and it’s all-consuming, the ups and the downs, and some darkness that comes with it – the part of seeking approval and seeking love from the world, but it’s important to stay in the magic -  stay in the spark. That moment when you’re on stage or writing a song—that’s why we do it. That’s the magic, so keep going; the journey is a beautiful, twisted one.”
