Locals invited to help shape Marinus Link sustainability goals

COMMUNITY members and stakeholders across Gippsland can now register for an online information session detailing the sustainability framework of the Marinus Link interconnector project.

The upcoming digital forum will outline how environmental, social, and economic sustainability targets are being integrated into the project's design and construction phases. Following the briefing, attendees will be granted a seven-day feedback window to review and comment on the proposed objectives.

The session is a collaborative initiative between Marinus Link and its lead contractor, TasVic GreenLink (TVGL). It aims to provide a comprehensive project overview while highlighting the long-term regional benefits of the subsea and underground electricity connection.

Mark Lindsay, Head of Community and Social Impact for Marinus Link, emphasised that public participation was vital to aligning the project with local expectations.

"Sustainability is an important part of how Marinus Link is being planned and delivered," Lindsay said. "We're looking forward to sharing more information about the project's approach and the outcomes we're seeking to achieve for communities, the environment and future generations."

Lindsay urged regional residents to use the session to engage directly with the project team and ask questions about the delivery benchmarks. The framework spans multiple criteria, including strict environmental protections, carbon emissions reduction, local employment creation, and regional skills training.

TVGL Manager Sustainability, Antoinette Irwin, noted that the targets are designed to be fully measurable and transparent. "We're setting clear and measurable sustainability targets covering environmental protection, emissions reduction, local jobs, skills development and positive community outcomes," Irwin said."

The sessions will run from 1pm to 2pm and 5.30pm to 6.30 pm on Tuesday September 22. The comprehensive agenda covers Marinus Link’s overarching sustainability framework, social impact initiatives, and direct community benefits. Presenters will also detail the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) rating process alongside the project's proposed sustainability objectives and targets.

A dedicated Q&A summary addressing all feedback and questions raised during the sessions will be published on the Marinus Link website and shared with registered participants shortly after the event.
