Major boost for Korumburra seniors’ fight against council
Attorney-General joins the fight
KORUMBURRA Senior Citizens Club has won powerful support in its battle with South Gippsland Shire Council over ownership of the town’s Senior Citizens Centre in Radovick Street, the club’s Secretary Kris Crichton declared at today’s AGM.
“The Attorney-General (Sonya Kilkenny) is the caretaker of all charitable trusts in Victoria,” he said, relating that to the establishment of a trust registered on December 19,1984 to protect the Korumburra Senior Citizens Centre and a signed and sealed Trust Deed to that effect.
He explained Ms Kilkenny has been provided with relevant documents and correspondence.
“She is now satisfied there is a charitable trust and she will now be the first plaintiff, and we will become the second plaintiff,” he said in relation to a Supreme Court case scheduled to begin on December 1 and expected to be heard over three days.
Mr Crichton stressed that council’s fight is now with Victoria’s Attorney-General as well as Korumburra Senior Citizens Club.
“We’re assured we’re ready to go in the Supreme Court and our KC is looking forward to having a conversation with council,” he said.
