Moe makes a run at Leongatha 15s but they're through by 8

WITH Leongatha’s goalers Jemma Rump and Anika Edwards playing in perfect unison in the circle for the Parrots’ 15s netball team on Saturday, they set up victory over Moe in the preliminary final at Sale with a near faultless second quarter of 13 goals to four.

Turns out they needed it with Moe coming out after half time and cutting the Parrots’ lead by three and going on a mini-run at the start of the last quarter to reduce the margin to three at one stage.

In that quarter, Moe got the first goal, before one of their defenders Tayley Reaper forced the turnover, racing the ball up the other end where Qoute Nhial used her height advantage to get their second.

The got the difference back to five with the next centre pass and goal and all of a sudden, Leongatha needed a steadying goal.

But the ball was lost in the midcourt, Moe transitioned well to Nhial again and despite losing her footing, she goaled once more to cut the margin to four.

With the crowd screaming and fully engaged now, Moe got a goal off the next centre pass and it was down to three where Leongatha had led by eight at the last break.

But with the contest at fever pitch, it was Leongatha’s Jemma Rump who got a much-needed goal to steady the ship, Moe responded but Leongatha’s players were up and running again and when Anika Edwards answered in emphatic fashion with a long bomb, there was no looking back.

Kobie Effern and Mikayla Richards kept the pressure on the opposition’s goalers Nhial and Judilla but just as importantly, Ainsley Logan, Finlay Bradley and co were keeping it tight in the midcourt.

A lightning passing exchange between Rump, Bradley and Edwards produced the Parrots’ next goal and they went on a run of their own, out to 6, then 7 and eight in an impressive response.
