Bringing a home-grown story to young readers

1 min read

CLOVER the Cow is being reprinted to coincide with the 150th anniversary celebration of the settling of Poowong on Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Clover the Cow is a picture book for primary school children, with the added bonus of extra sections about dairy farms, milk processing and the many and varied products that are created here in South

Gippsland. This information caters for readers and learners of all ages.

The fictional story of Clover was written by Jackie Wilmann of Poowong and illustrated by Emma White of Drouin.

Clover is a calf who lives in the rolling green hills of South Gippsland. Her adventures take her around the farm where she discovers various nasty weeds. Along with her friends she learns that farmers, and even other animals work hard to keep weeds like ragwort, thistles, and blackberries out of her pasture.

Jackie created the story on behalf of the Poowong Community Consultative Committee (PCCC). PCCC is responsible for the reprinting and sales hoping to bring a real home-grown story book to young readers.

Clover the Cow is available locally at the Poowong Post Office and Loch Motors, online by emailing poowong@live.com, via a text to Wilma at 0417 039 209 or at the 150th celebrations, for the cost of $20 plus $5 postage per book.
