WHILE cowpats aren’t usually the source of much excitement, that couldn’t be said at Loch Primary School where one such deposit brought tears of joy, a lady who normally doesn’t win anything picking up $500 in Cowpat Bingo on Sunday.
Organiser Alanna Crew, a member of the school’s Parents Club was inspired by an ABC article she read about such a competition, the Loch version of the event proving so popular all 225 tickets were sold.
A trio of cows wandered a grassed area featuring a large grid containing numbers, judge Frank Springer entrusted with making the call if a cow didn’t neatly hit a single square, the one with the bulk of the contribution being the winner.
Merry People gumboots, established by Nerrena’s Dani Holloway, sponsored the first prize, 70 being the lucky number.
Burra Foods sponsored the $250 second prize and various other aspects of the school’s fundraising day, while the third prize consisted of vouchers from businesses in the area.
Tug of War and Gumboot Throw competition added to the fun, along with a mini market, food, music and face painting.
Money raised goes towards furniture for the school’s Wellbeing Room that was officially opened on Sunday.
