DAY two of the 2025 Rip Curl GromSearch Phillip Island Presented by Bass Coast Shire saw the groms rip through a packed schedule, ticking off Round 1 of the U14 Girls, Round 2 of the U14 Boys, Round 1 of the U16 Girls, and Round 2 of the U16 Boys in cold and windy conditions.
The day began with Round 1 of the U14 Girls, despite the surf, Eve Campbell (Tomakin, NSW) impressed early, securing a combined heat total of 14.17 — one of the standout performances of the morning.
“Once I was on the wave, it definitely felt very windy, it was definitely hard to turn,” Eve said. Still, her heat strategy paid off, “I saw how the current was sweeping down… it kinda just came towards me.”
From there, the U14 Boys Round 2 heats kicked off, with Jacques Callebaut (Freshwater, NSW) lighting up the lineup with a powerful 7.67 ride, one of the biggest single-wave scores of the day.
“It was a really cupped-out one, so I knew it was a good one,” Jacques explained. “It was like a wave back home, so easy to surf.”
To finish we had one of the biggest heats of the day between Loci Cullen, Kai Coleman, Hemi O’Brien and Luke Silver. Loci had a star performance with a combined score of 17.30. He surfed the three highest scoring waves of the day with an 8.17, 8.67 and an 8.63.
Despite the conditions, the groms proved why the Rip Curl GromSearch presented by Bass Coast Shire continues to showcase the next generation of surfing talent. With standout performances from Eve Campbell and Jacques Callebaut highlighting Day 2, all eyes now turn to tomorrow, here at Phillip Island.
