Job opportunities abound at Bass Coast Jobs and Careers Expos

WITH more employers, more job opportunities and a revolutionary virtual reality careers education platform the 2025 Bass Coast Jobs and Careers Expo at Wonthaggi had something for everyone.

Jobs and Careers Expos at Wonthaggi and Phillip Island have grown to become a vital connection point between local job seekers, education providers and employers.

Now in its fourth year the Jobs Expo provides a direct pathway into a wide range of industries and career opportunities such as tourism, healthcare, construction, education, mining, hospitality and conservation to name just a few.

Delivered by Bass Coast Shire Council in partnership with Workforce Australia and the Victorian Government’s Skills and Jobs Centre the free expos provide a range of career opportunities.

Whether you’re looking for a first job, a new direction, or additional work the expos provide time and space to chat to local training providers and support services about career pathways, traineeships and apprenticeships.

VIC VICE a revolutionary new virtual reality careers education platform was on display at the expo for the first time providing a smart solution to the growing problem of workforce shortages and widening skills gap.

A jobs board was also on display at the Jobs and Careers Expo in Wonthaggi featuring current vacancies from local employers.

Thanking exhibitors for their support and commitment to the local community Bass Coast Shire Mayor Cr Rochelle Halstead said the expos were a great opportunity for the community to take full advantage of what’s on offer.

“We’ve heard amazing stories of people walking into these expos unsure of what to expect, and walking out with their dream job,” said Mayor Halstead.

“That’s what this is all about, opening doors and giving you the chance to show up, have a conversation, and discover what’s possible.

“Job seekers are looking for meaningful work close to home.

Mayor Halstead said she knows how challenging recruitment can be.

“Without the right people it can be hard to grow and thrive.

“Our region is growing, and we are a skills exporter.

“People travel outside the region every day for work, we want them here,” she said.

From her own experience Cr Halstead said tourism, hospitality and retail are already gearing up for the busiest time of year over summer.

“If you’re a job seeker I encourage you to chat to employers,” said Cr Halstead.

“Bass Coast Council is proud to lead this event with its business partners.

“It’s about making the most of the connections you have and building strong communities.”

Hands-on support from the Gippsland Skills and Jobs Centre is available at the expos with free one-on-one advice to help polish your resume and help improve your interview skills.

The Phillip Island Jobs and Careers Expo at Berninneit in Cowes will be held on Friday September 5 from 9.30am to 1.30pm including advice for aspiring entrepreneurs.
