KARMAI Community Centres kids celebrated children's book week by participating in fun activities at Myli library Korumburra, including a special story time, a collaborative art project and singing songs, last Tuesday. Dressed up as their favourite book or movie characters, the children listened intently to three children’s story books, all of which have been shortlisted for awards. Peek-a-boo Lottie was read and the children learnt lots of ways to say peekaboo in different languages. Then it was Grow Big, Little Seed where they learnt about growing a plant, and that even when you do everything right, it still sometimes doesn’t grow and it’s important to try again. Then the ever-popular and kids favourite, The Truck Cat, and winner of this year’s 2025 Children’s Book of the Year, topped off story time. The children then all busily coloured in different pages for the collaborative art project, which library staff made into one big image and placed it on the library wall showing off all of their wonderful creations. Myli Library Korumburra host a large range of activities for children across the year and they also offer weekly story time sessions every Monday at 10am. “There is consistent access to those stories and learning opportunities here at the library," explained Rochelle Quigley, library and programs team member. "Being able to have that early connection to reading, being able to try it out with your friends and come into a fun space like we have here to be read to, is very enjoyable for the children, as well as us as staff.”
