Leongatha Scout Group benefits from combined Mega Garage Sale

1 min read

LEONGATHA Scout Group will benefit from the Mega Garage Sale running through until 5pm on Friday August 1 and from 10am-3pm on Saturday August 2 at Leongatha Scout Hall.

While the market stalls selling games, puzzles, books, clothes, and even kits to make giant bubbles are run by members of the local homeschooling group, the Scout Group will raise funds through Saturday’s barbecue and the sale of drinks including coffee, tea and hot chocolate on both days.

People can also enter a raffle to win a Suzuki Swift, that being run by the Scouts in three States, with local sales benefiting the Leongatha Scout Group.

The combined market was organised by scout leader Lauren Martin, who is also part of the homeschooling group.

She spoke of the appeal for young people in joining the Scouts, including opportunities for personal growth and development of leadership skills as well as lots of fun.

“We do lots of camps that involve outdoor adventure activities,” Lauren said, adding the group does something enjoyable every week.

On Friday, its members were looking forward to going ‘ice blocking’, sledding down hills on large blocks of ice, having recently made racing cars powered by adapted mouse traps.

“It’s very broad what we offer, everything from STEM to outdoors, personal growth and community involvement,” Lauren said.

Her daughter Lyla is selling her handsewn creations at the market, repurposing blankets and pyjama tops.

She said that through Scouts she has lots of fun with a bunch of friends in a supportive environment.
