Newhaven College students win top honours

SAFFI Campbell Walker and Will Murphy from Newhaven College received top honours this week for their outstanding VCE results in 2023.

Both Saffi and Will received a Premier’s VCE Award for excellence in VCE Music Contemporary.

Out of the three awards given statewide in this category, they received two. This puts them among the top VCE students in the state in 2023.

Newhaven College principal Mr Tony Corr said the entire school community was proud of their Premier’s VCE Award recipients: “For both Saffi and Will to receive a VCE Premier’s Awards in Music is an outstanding achievement. This is a reflection of their dedication and determination. The Newhaven College community is very proud of them both on being recipients of such a prestigious award”.

Director of Learning Mrs Karen Milkins-Hendry joined Tony in congratulating these outstanding students: “Talented and dedicated students partnered with passionate, expert teachers. Congratulations to Saffi and Will on this exceptional achievement.”

Mr Mathew Goss, Director of Music at Newhaven College added: “The College is immensely proud of Will and Saffi as this award is a true reflection on the dedication they have given to their craft over many years. We’re also proud knowing our department is nurturing talent and providing our students with the opportunity to achieve excellence. Will and Saffi, alongside their classmates, have already inspired the next generation of musicians at Newhaven College.”

310 of Victoria’s top-performing students were recognised at this year’s Premier’s VCE Awards, including three international students, six students who completed the VCE Vocational Major program with distinction, and 23 Top All-Round VCE High Achievers who achieved study scores of 46 or higher out of 50 in at least five VCE subjects.
