SGH enters a new era of electronic healthcare solutions

ON NOVEMBER 10, South Gippsland Hospital went live with Sunrise Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

This follows a $12 million investment from the Victorian State Government aimed at expanding the availability of electronic medical record (EMR) software to hospitals across the Gippsland region relying on paper-based patient records.

This expansion is being implemented by the Gippsland Health Alliance with Altera’s Sunrise EMR clinical suite.

The EMR provides many clinical benefits, including a reduction in risks and medical errors, improved clinical decision-making, and improved patient health outcomes. Access to clinical results in the medical record is essential to ensure healthcare professionals have accurate patient information, maximising the quality of care provided to patients and streamlining work for medical staff.

Chief Information Officer of GHA, Adrian Shearer, says that the successful implementation of Sunrise EMR has established the foundation for future digital growth and development in healthcare across the region.

“The public health industry is rapidly evolving, and technological solutions are rapidly improving information management and patient outcomes within health services. The EMR has created the opportunity for South Gippsland Hospital to work in greater partnership with the other health services across the region, creating a more streamlined experience for patients across Gippsland,” said the CIO.

Chief Executive Officer at South Gippsland Hospital, Paul Greenhalgh, said that staff at South Gippsland Hospital were instrumental in preparing for and adopting the EMR system.

“This accomplishment reflects the behind-the-scenes efforts of our incredible staff at every project stage. They thoroughly tested the EMR’s functionality with other systems, embraced both online and classroom training, and collaborated during Go-Live. Thanks to their active engagement, South Gippsland Hospital has smoothly adopted the EMR,” said Paul.

South Gippsland Hospital would like to thank staff for their active participation in and engagement during the implementation of EMR.
