UPDATE: Grieving family thanks community for ‘love and prayers’

1 min read

THERE has been nationwide interest in the tragic death of three residents of the Korumburra, last Friday and over the weekend, reportedly as a result of eating poisonous mushrooms at a private lunch in Leongatha a week earlier.

It has resulted in the Patterson and Wilkinson families issuing a statement in the hope of regaining a level of privacy.

Here is their statement, issued in Korumburra on Sunday evening, August 6:

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of a tragic event that has deeply affected our families, friends, and church community. The past week has been a time of shock and grief for us all.

Our beloved family members, who we will not name at this time out of respect for their privacy, were cherished individuals. They were parents, grandparents, siblings, children, and pillars of faith within our community. Their love, steadfast faith, and selfless service have left an indelible mark on our families, the Korumburra Baptist Church, the local community, and indeed, people around the globe.

We find solace in God's love, knowing that they are now in the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our wider communities for their outpouring of love, support, and prayers. This support extends not only to those we have tragically lost but also to our family member who continues to bravely fight for his life in the hospital.

We also wish to express our deep appreciation to the staff of the hospitals that have cared for them. Their tireless efforts, expertise, and compassionate care for our families have been a source of comfort during this difficult time.

Our families will assist appropriate authorities in any way we can and respect any necessary processes amidst this tragedy.

As we navigate this challenging time, we kindly request that the privacy of our family, church, and friends be respected. We need space to grieve both privately and as a community.

We thank you for your understanding and compassion.
