FOOD & Fibre Gippsland has announced the appointment of Simon Johnson as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective as of Wednesday July 2.
Simon brings over two decades of leadership experience and a deep commitment to the region’s food and fibre industries. With a 20-year tenure at CHEP, A Brambles Company, and more recently as owner-operator of the iconic Tinamba Hotel, Simon blends strategic business acumen with grassroots regional engagement.
A long-time supporter of Gippsland's vibrant agrifood sector, Simon has served on the Board of Food & Fibre Gippsland since November 2021. His appointment signals a strong alignment with the organisation’s ongoing mission to foster innovation, knowledge-sharing, and capacity building across the region’s value chain.
“Simon’s appointment marks a new and exciting era for Food & Fibre Gippsland,” said Chair, Barry Rogers. “He brings not only a wealth of corporate and entrepreneurial experience but also a deep and genuine connection to the Gippsland community. His vision and leadership will be instrumental as we drive growth and transformation across the food and fibre sector.”
Commenting on his appointment, Simon Johnson said:
“I’m honoured to take on the role of CEO at Food & Fibre Gippsland. This region holds a special place in my heart, and I’m passionate about helping our producers, innovators, and communities thrive. I look forward to working with the team to build on the organisation’s strong foundations and drive meaningful impact across Gippsland’s food and fibre landscape.”
Outside of his professional commitments, Simon is actively involved in the community, including his roles with Committee for Wellington and the Little Jem Foundation and several local sporting organisations.
“We are confident that under Simon’s guidance, Food & Fibre Gippsland will continue to build stronger links between producers, stakeholders, and consumers, championing the incredible quality and innovation emerging from our region,” Barry Rogers added.
