Critical injuries as driver airlifted to Melbourne in early morning crash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses this morning on Inverloch-Venus Bay Road, near Tarwin after a single vehicle carrying a 36-year-old male from Inverloch left the road.

Police were alerted to the accident around 5.30am by two passersby.

The vehicle was extensively damaged, and the driver was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne with critical injuries.

It's believed the 4WD left the road, hit a tree and rolled multiple times. 

The driver was taken by road to Korumburra Recreation Reserve where local paramedics met the air ambulance. 

The road was closed for 1.5 hours.
