POLICE have arrested a man following a house fire in Smiths Beach last night (April 9) that caused significant damage to the property.
Emergency services from across the district were called to the fire on Marlin Street about 9pm.
Two occupants in the house at the time of the fire evacuated the property and were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The fire has been deemed suspicious and a crime scene has been established and an arson chemist will attend the scene on April 10.
A 53-year-old Phillip Island man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
