Santo Joma claims DFC welterweight title at Inferno in Adelaide

THE ICONIC Adelaide Oval was transformed into a boiling pot of combat sports as Wonthaggi’s own King Cowboy Santo Joma headlined the Diamondback Fighting Championship 27 aptly dubbed DFC 27 Inferno.

Backed by the International Sport Kickboxing Association the night delivered a spectacular mix of high energy martial arts action. The undisputed centrepiece of the evening was the highly anticipated showdown for the vacant DFC Welterweight Championship. The bout pitted Victoria’s striking specialist Santo King Cowboy Joma against South Australia’s own homegrown powerhouse Jacob The Hog Desmond.

Billed as a classic state-vs-state rivalry match Joma walked into the cage carrying the weight of massive expectation. Renowned for his dominant performances under K1 kickboxing rules and possession of prestigious national titles King Cowboy had promised before the event that he was "coming to hunt hog."

Despite an underdog amateur MMA record of 1-2-0 heading into the contest, Joma's elite-level stand-up pedigree gave him a distinct psychological edge. From the opening bell, the clash of styles was apparent.

Desmond looked to implement his trademark pressure, attempting to drag the decorated Bass Coast kickboxer into deep, suffocating wrestling waters. However, Joma's preparation at Wonthaggi paid immediate dividends.

As the rounds progressed, Joma’s conditioning and K1 experience took complete control of the octagon. He systematically dismantled Desmond’s guard with a ferocious variety of leg kicks and piercing straight right hands.

By the time the championship rounds arrived, the physical toll on Desmond was undeniable. Joma's precision striking left the South Australian bloodied but resilient, refusing to back down in front of a partisan Adelaide crowd.

When the final bell sounded after five gruelling rounds, there was little doubt as to whose waist the gold belt belonged to. The judges awarded Santo Joma a unanimous decision victory to capture the vacant DFC Welterweight Championship title.

Following his win, an emotional Joma took time to praise his opponent and express deep gratitude to his inner circle.
