SOUTH Gippsland Skate Series is coming to Mirboo North, Korumburra and Venus Bay this month, with Mirboo North also set for an All Abilities session, and there’ll be a separate skating event in Cowes early in October.

The South Gippsland sessions are hosted by the local council and Grow Skate Society, a partner of Skateboarding Victoria, as part of Youth Fest and provide exciting skate and recreation activities during the school holidays.

The sessions let young people get active, develop new skills and connect with friends.

There’ll be jam-style skate sessions at each of the skateparks, with the Venus Bay event also including a skateboard deck art session run by local artist Ben Everitt and there’ll be a local DJ and various games.

Grow Skate Society aims to share skateboarding  with those of all ages and abilities in communities throughout South Gippsland and Bass Coast, along with other Victorian locations.

Alan, Chloe, Audrey, Michael, Mallee and Gav with the All Abilities Freedom Frame that will feature at the All Abilities skate event in Mirboo North this month.

One of the organisation’s founders Chloe Woodward explained how the Mirboo North All Abilities event works, with that session supported by Disability Sport and Recreation Victoria through a Regional All Abilities Participation Grant.

“That session will be a little bit quieter and more friendly for those who are neurodiverse and people living with a disability who want to try skateboarding but maybe don’t want the big crowd,” she said.

That session includes the chance to experience the All Abilities Freedom Frame that enables people with a variety of mobility issues or low vision to enjoy skateboarding.

The four South Gippsland Events take place between September 22 and 24, with the schedule being:

  • 22 September, 12:30 – 2 pm
