Australian SUP Titles wrap up with Marathon Racing off Phillip Island

THE 2025 Australian SUP Titles concluded on Saturday, with champions crowned across six divisions in SUP Marathon Racing.

Open Women Marathon winner, Victorian Sorelle Nolan, was proud of her victory and the SUP community, describing the experience as “absolutely awesome” and saying the conditions were challenging but fun and it was amazing to be the first woman over the line.

“Everyone’s cheering for each other out there – it’s such a special sport where everyone genuinely wants each other to succeed,” Nolan said.

Open Men Marathon winner Juan Cruz (QLD) loved returning to Phillip Island and was delighted with his victory.

“The course they chose definitely played in my favour; I might’ve run out of steam on a longer one,” he said, having come third last year on the long course.

Cruz praised the crew, hospitality and event organisers at Phillip Island.

Thermos Open Men’s Champion, Matt Takle (VIC), thanked his lucky charms for a cracker wave that came to him right at the last minute.

“That last one came through right on the buzzer and I just did what I had to do,” he said, having caught a wave early, then having to be patient for about the next 10 minutes, admitting he was struggling and out of energy when the last moment opportunity arrived.

“I’m stoked! It’s been an awesome week, and Surfing Australia and Surfing Victoria have put on such a great event,” Takle said.

Thermos Open Women’s Champion, Rebecca Dunning (NSW), was equally stoked to take the win against some younger rivals:

“I’ve been wanting this one for a while, so it feels great to get it done against the young guns,” she said.

“My bottom turn felt really good, but I got the wobbles on the top turn and I’m just stoked I held it together; Phillip Island’s been so much fun this week.”
