GOOD news for the Pump Track for Cape Woolamai community - the Bass Coast Shire adopted the implementation plan for the Mountain Bike/BMX/Pump Strategy at its June meeting.
This recreational space at Sunnyside Reserve has been a long-time goal for the community, with strong support from advocate Deb Leonard. "We've secured funds for the design work, and the council plans to consult further so we can have our say on the design,” Deb said.
"We're also looking to add amenities like shelters, water fountains, and possibly a toilet to make the park a community hub - a spot for families to gather, hold birthday parties, or just catch up."
The next step is securing funding for construction. A new asphalt pump track is on the cards for this site, designed for bikes, scooters, and skateboards. The track will come with amenities like shelter, seating, drinking water, and accessible pathways, thanks to a partnership with the Bass Coast Mountain Bike Association Working Group and a professional design consultant.
This plan builds on the Mountain Bike/BMX/Pump Strategy, which was adopted in August 2024 after extensive community engagement. The initial design work is set for the 2025/26 financial year, using existing operational budgets. Once complete, these designs will give Council shovel-ready projects ready to apply for external funding for construction, with opportunities already identified through Sport and Recreation Victoria and similar programs. Further discussions with relevant landowners will continue as part of the planning and design process.
