Juniors put on a show at Nyora Raceway for season opener

WHAT a way to start the season! A massive two days of racing at Nyora Raceway saw new cars, fresh wraps, and plenty of on-track action from our junior and senior drivers alike.

The junior competitors certainly put on a show for the crowd, with multiple heat winners and close, hard-fought finals.

1500 Juniors – Steane Cosson claimed the win in front of Tyson Heaphy and Brad Marshall. Brad also had the fastest lap in the final with an 18.177. Would also like to thank The Smith family for bringing Tyler over and having a run at our track hope you guys enjoyed it and to all of our other drivers who supported us on the day Maddy and Blake Beach, Darcy Dannatt, our own club kids Jackson Heaphy, Kade Robertson who is getting faster every time he hits the track and our own little pocket rocket Cruz Abela.

1200 Juniors – Ryder Taylor, with a fastest lap time of 20.829 seconds, took the victory in his first final, which made it all that much more special winning against his cousin, Eliza and brother Cruz. In the second heat of this class, Ruby wanted to show her skills and please the crowd with her spectacular roller over, she got out of the car still smiles all over her face, mum’s not so much. She was checked over by the ambulance, and all was clear, and she was back out to race again. Our other two competitors in this class were Roary Southam and Zeke Warren, who has only had less than a handful of runs in the car, but he is also improving on every showing he has. He has some big shoes to fill with the likes of his dad, Wazza, and also Uncle Plugga, who both can drive anything

Junior Standards – Nathan Miles, with a fastest lap time of 18.926 seconds, drove strongly to take home the win in front of Cooper Irons and Jazmyn Miles, this being her first meeting in a race car, and she did extremely well. She will only get better from here. We also had a new driver to the scene, Chloe Cormack, who was a bit nervous, but she gave it a go, which was the main thing, and she also got out of the car happy she could do it.

The Standard Saloons for all classes provided some great entertainment, with Courtney Meakins taking the top spot in the Ladies Standards in her newly wrapped #84, and Wayne Sherman claiming victory in the Open Standards ahead of Kacey Ingram and Chris Miles.

The Outlaw Karts made a big impression, too, featuring the Coates Family Team.

The Senior Karts, using the bigger inside track, also put on some incredible racing.

We also had Sports sedans run with a great field of 16 cars most having a run before their season opener of the JP ESSS asphalting sports sedan series running Wangaratta next weekend, we had some new drivers start with us welcome to the club Riley Sherrard, Harry Cecil had some good results with two heat wins and a sec which put him of pole for the final and that is where he stayed to never look back he finished with a fastest lap time of 17.014. Behind him, however, there was some close racing with the likes of Cameron Dike and Brad Warren, who gave each other a run for their money, swapping positions a couple of times until lap five where Cameron cemented his position in second spot, followed by Brad in third, followed by River AX47 and Darren N 69 finishing in fourth and fifth.

Sunday saw a fantastic turnout for the Junior Quarter Midgets as Nyora hosted Round 1 of the JQMV Country Series. It was wonderful to see so many new drivers hitting the track, with smiles all around as the kids returned to Nyora.

We also had a few new trophies to give out on the weekend with best presented trophies sponsored by Ultimate Awards. These went to Dayne Reddecliffe and Jordan Lawry. Two sportspersons’ awards went to Lexi Eastham and Lewie Blencowe Kart. Also, a big thanks to Sky High Media for all of the awards they presented to the kids; they absolutely loved them. It’s great to have sponsors like them and also Napier Photography on board to help support the kids

These future speedway stars were absolutely brilliant! Watching their growing friendships and sportsmanship shows exactly what makes grassroots speedway so special.

A huge thank you to the Nyora Raceway Committee, our amazing volunteers, and sponsors who make these events possible. Your dedication keeps this community track alive and thriving.
