U14 MIXED: Following a tough loss in round seven, Leongatha’s U14s team were keen to get back on the pitch and change their luck in a home game against the Phillip Island Stingrays team.
Working hard at keeping their team structure during transition phases, the Knights played with composure and great passing. The Knights’ combination of the dominant striker Noah and excellent footwork from Nathan put Phillip Island Stingrays under pressure.
Goalkeeper Jack fearlessly saved the ball on numerous occasions in the box despite a chaotic scramble by both sides to get possession.
Though Phillip Island took the lead for most of the game the Knights never dropped their heads, instead focusing on their composure and team structure. It was this focus that saw them come from behind with some incredible goals by Noah (who scored five across the game) and magnificent sweeping by Lachlann as centre-back. A final score of 7-5 went Leongatha’s way to a cheering home crowd.
Senior Women
With the heavy fog of the early morning long gone and the bright winter sun providing welcomed warmth to the day, the Leongatha Lady Knights were keen to take on Trafalgar Victory in round eight of the GSL Senior Women’s Competition.
Suffering from some injuries, Trafalgar struggled to push from their defence but created a strong, defensive block, focusing the Knights to be more creative with their passing.
It was late in the first half when Leongatha was able to finally break through the incredible hands of the Trafalgar goalkeeper thanks to the boot of Amaye Sande. It was a corner from Knight’s Naomi Eaton that deflected off a Trafalgar defender to send the Knights to the break with a 2-0 lead.
Trafalgar continued to work hard in their defence to prevent space from opening up in Leongatha’s attack. It was Lisse Bath’s determination that secured the final goal for the Knights, resulting in a 3-0 win over the visitors.
