PIBC Bang Bang Junior Cup

2 min read

ON Saturday, May 11 the Phillip Island Boardriders Club (PIBC) concluded the last round of their Aggregate season by running a Junior and Cadets Competition, followed by an additional speciality event - the Bang Bang Junior Cup.

The Bang Bang Junior Cup is a new initiative to provide all younger members of PIBC the opportunity to surf under a competitive team environment and showcase skills that would not be met in a standard individual environment.

Committee member Jake Eisen shared “The Boardriders Club movement has been thriving across the country, where competitions like this give the younger members of the club pathways to one day represent their club at a national level at the Australian Boardriders Battle.”

The five teams for the Bang Bang Junior Cup consisted of seven surfers with one nominated “power surfer,” who surfed at the end of the final to achieve double points for their wave.

All captains of the teams showed tremendous leadership with the youngest Club Captain being Angus Kennedy at 13 years old (Cowes).

Highlights of the Cup including team captains Angus Kennedy as the most consistent surfer of the day, Rye and Jarrah Cicero (Sandy Point) providing consistent entertainment from their style, huge turns from Tate Russell and huge laybacks from Sam Patterson. As well as Kody Lewis for Best Improved and to mention that that the kids are loving his vibe at the comps - they all gave the parents and spectators an action filled event to watch.

The teams format ensured that the younger 8 – 12-year-old surfers were included in their teams, with some surfing the treacherous Woolamai beach for the first time in a competition environment.

Notable grom mentions go to Billy Easton, Max Agonostou, Ryan Hain, Angus Farman, Dom Gregory, Eddie Maier, and Rusty Maier.

The Best Turn of the Day went to Lillian Bassed for a huge frontside hack and a score of eight points, the sending it award to Keahi M, Best Wipeout to Zoe Scott, and overall team win went to the Eisen Property Chargers.
