Roll-up for fun, skills and companionship

1 min read

LEONGATHA Bowls Club provides a welcoming environment for all, whether you are an experienced bowler or new to the sport, with free Monday morning roll-up sessions including expert guidance from Bowls Victoria certified coach Alan Center.

Those who are working or have other commitments on Monday are encouraged to phone the club and make a one-on-one appointment with an experienced bowler who will give them a hand.
Monday action starts at 10am, usually running until about 11.30am.

While Alan works with those competing in Tuesday Pennant competition, he is happy to see others at the roll-ups, including new bowlers, and offer friendly advice.

“People love drills and getting a bit of guidance,” Alan said, that applying to beginners and experienced bowlers.

Drills include honing players’ ability to put themselves in a position to win each end while ensuring they don’t concede too much of a score to their opponents if that doesn’t occur.

Alan loves that bowls maintains a strong social vibe while giving everyone a chance, men, women, those with disabilities and people of all ages able to compete at an equal level.

Along with Alan’s coaching, other experienced bowlers at the club are happy to give new players a hand getting started.

“New people have found everybody at the club very welcoming,” barefoot bowls committee member John O’Connor said, noting the abundance of positive feedback to that effect.
